It was originally created to serve as a fire break in 1871 and also served as the yardstick for Sapporo's gridiron street design. There is a rose garden, a pond with a fountain and an outdoor stage. At the easternmost end is the Sapporo TV tower and at the western end, the Sapporo Reference Hall. |

Opened as a tourist site in 1959 on the premises of the Agricultural Ministry's Hokkaido Agricultural Laboratories, the terrace is located in the middle of a vast field where sheep graze peacefully. The new baseball-cum-soccer stadium, Sapporo Dome, can be viewed beyond Dr. Clark's statue that points to the Ishikari Plain far in the distance. It's a delightfully pastoral scene. |

Historical Village of Hokkaido |

 |

This is an outdoor museum in which approximately sixty buildings, collected from all over Hokkaido and dating back to the Meiji and Taisho periods, are exhibited, along with items used in their contemporary daily life. Trolleys drawn by horses are in operation during the summer; horse-drawn sleighs are used in winter. Both types of vehicles are fun to ride and, also, interesting as exhibits in motion. |

Mt. Moiwa is the geographical center of Sapporo. Moiwa is the native Ainu word for "a place for viewing". The view of the city, the scenery of Ishikari Bay and Mt. Daisetsuzan as are seen from the 531m high mountain are spectacular sights indeed. In the summertime, cable cars are operated during the night so tourists can enjoy the beautiful nighttime view.
Because of renovation work, the observatory and cable cars will be closed until March 2011. |
